$8,250,000 Settlement For Birth Injuries
In 2022, Loggans settled a cause of action for the negligence of a resident at a local hospital who failed to recognize an emergent situation for the delivery of a baby when the resident ruptured the bag of waters when the baby had a compound presentation for delivery. The doctor failed to call in a supervising obstetrician before making that decision, resulting in an umbilical cord prolapse. The prolapse required extraordinary measures were required to deliver this child and this was not done by the obstetrician who ultimately delivered this child severely depressed. The child has serious disabilities as result of this labor and delivery being mishandled and will require extensive therapy, medical care and support throughout her normal life expectancy. Her parents were also compensated for the required additional caretaking that will be necessary outside of what a normal child would need. This settlement allows the family to support this child with all the necessary medical and vocational needs.
